As a new blogger you can and will make mistakes. There are certainly a ton of them to be made. Blogging as I’m sure you all have realized is a learning experience! As I grow and continue to learn, I want to help you guys learn with me. Here are few of the mistakes I have made thus far that can hopefully help you not make the same ones. They are simple fixes and it only takes a second to fix each.
The Problem: WordPress creates a URL automatically and it is not easily searchable.
What to do about it? Change the URL on your blog post from the web generated description.
Why? To make your post easier to find.
What happens? You end up changing the blog link from: Http://www.traveltillyoudrop.com/316 TO http://www.traveltillyoudrop.com/top-7-halloween-costume-picks/ and it is now indexed under the appropriate title.
The Problem: Your taglines are not linking your site.
You forget to add “#” to your tags
What to do about it? Add the # to all of your keywords in your blog
Why? To make your site more searchable / findable. Without it your post may be lost to the world and hidden in this massive thing we call the Internet.
What Happens? The keywords link back to your site. The # is what sets apart a keyword for the remainder of your post. Yes, it really does make a difference.
The Problem: Uploaded photos are not findable:
What to do about it? When you upload pictures, make sure you upload photos with tag lines and alternative tag lines.
Why? The search engines will index your photos for that keyword to be able to make it easier to find.
What happens? Identity the photo, but also identify your website or whatever keyword you want people to be able to search for and find.
The Problem: Website/Email is too long and less people make it to your site
What to do about it? When you choose your website, make it short
Why? To ensure people have less of a chance of spelling it incorrectly, thus missing you page altogether or not receiving your email
What happens? People find your site and are able to reach you more easily, which gives you more traffic
The Problem: Bloglovin’s photo selection for your blog post is not the one you wanted or doesn’t exist. I’ve had a photo I hadn’t planned to be the one to represent my blog post, show up a number of times on Bloglovin’s site.
What to do about it? I found that whatever the first photo or ad that is placed on your site (after the featured picture) is the one that is chosen. Just make sure that 2nd photo is the one you want to show up.
Why? To ensure you get the pic you want to show up
What happens? You have a great photo show up with your post on Bloglovin’s really amazing site.
The Problem: Writing while distracted and making mistakes. Recently I uploaded an article with an incorrect title after getting distracted by two little people.
What to do about it? Find a nice quiet place away from distractions or at minimum when you are completing the post, make sure you are focused.
Why? You end up with better product and titles connecting to the correct blog post.
What happens? You will have a better blog and post with less errors.
