The 5 Creepiest Cemeteries in the World
In this article, I’m going to take a look at five of the creepiest cemeteries in the world. If you're brave enough, you can even check them out for yourself. I’ve always enjoyed making my way into random cemeteries around the globe. The beauty of these sacred areas, the notoriety of the famous that made their way to them, or the sheer creepy factor are things that draw me to these locations. I had to visit Jim Morrison in Paris and plant my piece of gum on his tree as so many had done for so many years before. Within this article though, my focus is on those that may provide more a place that runs chills up and down your spine versus the beauty.
If you're looking for a truly spine chilling experience, then a visit to Bachelor's Grove is a must. This cemetery is in the suburbs of Chicago, and it's said to be haunted by the ghosts of the dead who roam its grounds. There have been reports of ghost sightings here since the 1800s. Unfortunately many of the graves are unmarked or have been vandalized. In fact, the cemetery became so well known for its paranormal activity that it was featured on an episode of Ghost Adventures. If you're looking for a ghost hunt, this is the place to go.
If you're looking for a spooky cemetery to visit, then the Valley of the Kings is definitely worth checking out. This place is home to some of the most elaborate tombs in the world, and it's said that they're haunted by the spirits of the pharaohs who are buried there. Some of the tombs have been discovered to have hidden corridors and secret chambers, which only adds to the creepiness factor. if that's not enough for you, there's also a rumor that the Valley of the Kings is built on top of a portal to the underworld.
If you're looking for a truly creepy cemetery, then you need to check out Howard Street Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. It's one of the most haunted cemeteries in the world, and it's said that the spirits of the dead are still wandering around there. People have reported seeing ghostly figures lurking among the gravestones, and some say that you can hear the sounds of tortured souls crying out in pain. If you're brave enough, then make sure to visit this spooky graveyard at night—you never know what might happen.
La Noria Cemetery
If you're looking for a cemetery that's truly spine chilling, then you need to check out La Noria in Chile. This place is infamous for its mummies, which have been well preserved due to the dry climate. But it's not just the mummies that make La Noria so creepy—it's also the fact that the cemetery is built on a hill, so it's easy to get lost among the tombs and gravestones. And if that's not bad enough, some of the graves are even said to be haunted!
If you're looking for a truly creepy cemetery, then you need to check out Chamula Cemetery in Chiapas, Mexico. This place is downright haunted, and it's said that the spirits of the dead are constantly at war with the living. One of the most spine-tingling things about Chamula is the way the graves are decorated. You'll see elaborate crosses and statues of saints, as well as offerings of food and drink left for the dead. It's a bizarre and fascinating place, but it's also right down creepy.
There's something about cemeteries that just creeps people out. Maybe it's the thought of being buried alive, or maybe it's the dark and spooky atmosphere. No matter what it is, cemeteries make for some great horror stories – and some even better tourist destinations.
